Top Ten Closet Organizing Products

Updated: May 16

When it comes to organizing your closet, there are several products that can be highly effective. Before you start organizing your closet, clear it out to see how much you have of each category of item and throw away or donate those items you haven't used in the last year. This will clear up space in your closet and help you figure out how many of these different products you will need to get your closet looking amazing. Here are my top ten closet organizing products that I have used with clients over the years with high satisfaction.

Well Organized Closet

  1. Hangers: Investing in good-quality hangers can make a big difference in maximizing space and keeping your clothes wrinkle-free. Slim, velvet-covered hangers or wooden hangers are popular choices. Make sure that Anything that you're putting on a hanger isn't stretching the material or pulling threads out. You'll wish you had folded that prized sweater and left it on a shelf.

  2. Closet Dividers: Dividers can be helpful for categorizing your clothing by type, size, or season. They make it easier to find specific items quickly. You can find dividers that hang directly on the closet rod or ones that attach to hangers. Having a divider makes it easier to manage your closet organization and if you rotate your wardrobe throughout the year, it speeds the process of replacing the season's clothes.

  3. Shelf Dividers: If you have shelves in your closet, shelf dividers can keep your folded items neatly separated and prevent them from toppling over. They can also be helpful in dividing up smaller items like belts, purses, jewelry and other accessories.

  4. Hanging Shoe Organizers: These organizers have pockets to store your shoes and can hang on the back of your closet door or on a rod. They are great for saving space and keeping your shoes visible and easily accessible. Opt for organizers that hang from the hanger rod, and be sure that the one you choose fits the space in terms of height.

  5. Drawer Organizers: Use drawer organizers to keep your smaller clothing items like socks, underwear, and accessories neatly separated and easy to find. Adjustable or customizable dividers work well to accommodate different items. The best drawer organizers are spring loaded so that you can compress them to fit the size of the drawer.

  6. Storage Bins and Boxes: Clear, stackable storage bins or boxes can be used to store items such as seasonal clothing, blankets, or accessories that you don't use frequently. Labeling them will help you quickly identify what's inside. These are best used for clothes that will be stored in the off-season or only used for special occasions.

  7. Over-the-Door Hooks and Racks: Over-the-door hooks or racks can create additional hanging space for robes, scarves, belts, or bags. They are easy to install and utilize the unused space behind your closet door. Hat and belt racks are also excellent for over the door storage as these items can be difficult to find a space for that still allows you to maximize the usable area of your closet.

  8. Space-Saving Hangers: Specialty hangers like cascading hangers or multi-tiered hangers allow you to hang multiple items vertically, maximizing your closet's vertical space. These are an excellent choice for slacks and other thin pants, as they allow a lot of thin items to be stored in a way that uses very little space. They also make it easy to see this part of your wardrobe at a glance.

  9. Garment Bags: Garment bags are perfect for storing and protecting special occasion dresses, suits, or delicate clothing items from dust and damage. Look for breathable bags with clear windows for easy identification. It's also a good idea to put identifying information on the bag as they are often used for travel and commonly left behind in a hotel or baggage claim.

  10. Label Maker: While not a physical product for organizing your closet, a label maker can be incredibly handy for labeling boxes, bins, and shelves. It adds a professional touch and makes finding things much easier. Brother makes an excellent new label maker called the Cube Plus that can be operated from an app on your phone and can be used with many different colored labels and allows any number of fonts, borders and other decorative touches.

The closet is the most commonly cluttered space in the house, both because of its frequent use and the lack of usable storage solutions.
